TONI CORMIER

me oh no_edited.jpg

Toni Cormier is an interdisciplinary emerging artist based on Treaty 7 territory (Mohkinstis). Cormier's settler Acadian, Irish, and Scottish lineages have lived on the unceded territories of the Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) and Mi’kmaq people for many generations. Through speculative and underwater environments, Cormier's practice creates interspecies connections that examine queer intimacy, desire, and loss. Her works respond to the autonomy of beings beneath the waves, and challenge western patrilineal trophy fishing narratives.

She holds a BFA with distinction from the Alberta University of the Arts. In 2019 she won the Board of Governors Graduating Student Award for Drawing and was nominated for the BMO 1st ART Award.
